August 19: Skype calls from your mobile
I just found this new service called iSkoot. It lets you do three things:
- Place calls to Skype contacts or landlines from your mobile
- Transfer calls from your computer to your mobile (and back again)
- Forward calls received by your Skype account or SkypeIn number to your mobile
The web site and interface are abysmal, and on my first attempt it didn't work too well for me, but it does look interesting.
It uses the conference calling feature of Skype to connect together: the recipient of your call, your PC, and your mobile phone. It does this by calling all the parties from your PC on your behalf, using SkypeOut when appropriate. As a result, using it will incur SkypeOut call charges (and you'll need to leave your PC on), but nonetheless it may end up being cheaper than your mobile network.
